For all of you who are trying to avoid artificial food dyes–Red #3, Red#40, Yellow #5, Yellow #6, Blue #1, Blue#2, and Green #3–there is good news.  First, the California legislature is considering legislation that will require food manufacturers to post a warning label on products that contain food dyes that the product may affect children’s behavior.  Second, Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins today committed to phase out most of the artificial food dyes from most foods and beverages by the end of 2018.   Dunkin Donuts is the 7th largest restaurant chain in the United States, and Baskin-Robbins is 79th. Both are reformulating a wide array of products, including doughnuts, ice creams, and beverages.  This is progress, but even without dyes, their foods are high in sugar and saturated fats and are good for no one–except perhaps as an occasional indulgence!
